We are seeking an experienced Residential Assistant to join our team in Chelmsford. As a key member of our residential/short break service, you will work collaboratively with adults, their families and other professionals to ensure the provision of a high-quality service.
About You:
You will be an experienced carer with a person-centred approach, able to work flexibly and reliably as part of a rota. A previous experience in this field is essential, and you must be able to hit the ground running. Full training is provided, and induction is paid.
The role involves providing support to individuals to ensure they can reach their optimum independence and exert control over their everyday lives, in accordance with their care plan. This includes supporting with personal care, medication, meal preparation, and laundry. You will also support individuals/groups to access social and leisure activities, such as college classes, resource centres, community access, and other activities.
Monitoring individual emotional and general wellbeing on a daily basis is crucial, ensuring the protection of adults from abuse by reporting any concerns to senior managers. Additionally, you will support individuals to make choices in a way that respects their dignity and privacy, promoting their choice in accordance with the care plan and any other key documents.
You will need to have good communication skills and be able to develop a rapport with diverse groups of individuals. Some experience working with adults with disabilities or a desire to work in this field is also beneficial. Awareness of a person-centred approach and respect for dignity and privacy, promoting choice, is essential. Understanding of relevant legislation, such as Vulnerable Adults, Mental Capacity, and other such legislation, is necessary.
Requirements:
- Educated to RQF Level 2 (GCSE) or equivalent by experience, with a willingness to achieve the award within 24 months of starting the role.
- Experience within a social care setting and working within a team environment.
- Good communication skills and ability to develop a rapport with diverse groups of individuals.
- Some experience working with adults with disability or desire to work in this field.
- Awareness of person-centred approach and respect for dignity and privacy, promoting choice.
- Understanding of relevant legislation, such as Vulnerable Adults, Mental Capacity, and other such legislation.

Essex County Council offers a competitive salary package, including a salary of £23,344 to £24,395 per annum, depending on experience. The role also offers excellent benefits, including paid induction and full training.
