Job Title: Clinical Research Facility Matron

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Clinical Research Facility Matron to lead and manage our clinical research team at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in clinical research, excellent communication and leadership skills, and the ability to inspire and motivate a team. They will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality research studies, fostering a culture of excellence in clinical research practice, and working closely with multidisciplinary teams, academic partners, and external stakeholders to drive forward the Trust's research agenda.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Lead and manage the clinical research team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and patient-centered research studies.
  2. Act as a clinical expert and provide mentorship, guidance, and support to research nurses and other team members.
  3. Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement the Trust's research strategy, aligning with national and local priorities.
  4. Ensure compliance with all relevant research governance frameworks, policies, and regulations.
  5. Promote a culture of continuous improvement in research practice, encouraging innovation and best practices.
  6. Foster strong relationships with academic institutions, research networks, and other key stakeholders to enhance the Trust's research portfolio.
  7. Monitor and report on research activity, outcomes, and performance, ensuring that the Trust meets its research targets and objectives.
  8. Manage the allocation of resources within the research team, ensuring effective use of staff, budgets, and facilities.
  9. Champion patient and public involvement in research, ensuring that research activities are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of our diverse population.
  10. Support R&D in the development of research proposals and funding applications.
Requirements:
  • NMC registered
  • GCP Training
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Management Qualification
  • Experience in writing research proposals and securing research funding
Experience:
  • Extensive experience of clinical research management and delivery within various NHS settings and specialties
  • Substantial experience of managing teams and able to deal with staff performance issues
  • Extensive knowledge of national policy, standards, and frameworks related to healthcare and clinical research
  • Experience of working across a complex organization and/or region supporting healthcare and/or research delivery
  • Experience of teaching/delivering specialist training
  • Experience of writing and implementing SOPs, processes
  • Experience of finance and costings in research
Knowledge:
  • Understanding of clinical trials and familiarity with the issues surrounding clinical data, particularly confidentiality
  • National Research agenda and national research organizations
  • Knowledge and experience of handling complex relationships
  • Costings and/or research finance

Salary: £59,490 to £66,239 per annum inc HCAS
