Job Title: Associate Commercial Legal Counsel

Location: Remote (with occasional travel to our offices)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Associate Commercial Legal Counsel to join our expanding legal team at Checkout Group. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in providing legal advice and support to our commercial, product, treasury, and compliance teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with our commercial, product, treasury, and compliance teams to provide real-time legal advice and support
  • Support relationships with regulators on license-related matters
  • Review payments product structures, flows, and terms to ensure compliance with legal requirements
  • Advise on payments regulatory matters, including compliance with payments laws and related regulations across our different jurisdictions
  • Advise on broader regulatory requirements applicable to financial institutions, including group regulatory change projects
  • Advise key business functions on new regulatory developments impacting our operations, products, and contractual commitments
Requirements
  • Qualified solicitor/lawyer (2-5PQE) with strong post-qualification experience either in-house or in private practice
  • Strong understanding of legal principles applicable to payments, including the payments ecosystem and payments regulatory and licensing strategy/execution, and to broader financial institutions
  • Previous FinTech, start-up, payments, and/or financial institution experience is desirable but not essential
  • Excellent time management skills and experience managing a diverse workload and competing stakeholder demands
  • Ability to handle and deliver on numerous high-priority projects concurrently
  • Comfort with ambiguity, constant change, and a fast-paced culture
  • A practical, solutions-oriented focus to solving legal challenges
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as needed, flexing the approach as the matter requires
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate and explain complex legal issues clearly and concisely
