Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time
Project Overview

This PhD research project is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the understanding of cancer biology and the development of new technologies for spatial molecular profiling. The project will be hosted in the Spatial Profiling and Annotation Centre of Excellence (SPACE), an interdisciplinary laboratory dedicated to developing and applying spatial molecular profiling technologies.

Research Objectives
  • To investigate the molecular determinants of the low-to-high grade transition in glioma using spatial omics technologies.
  • To identify potential prognostic and diagnostic markers, as well as therapy targets, for this disease.
  • To develop new technologies for spatial epigenomics and multi-omics.
Methodology

The student will use a variety of spatial omics technologies, including spatial transcriptomics, multiplexed immunohistochemistry, single-cell genomics, 3D whole-organ microscopy, and mass spectrometry imaging. The student will also have the opportunity to develop new technologies for spatial epigenomics and multi-omics.

Requirements
  • A bright and curious mind with a keen interest in cancer biology and the application of new technologies.
  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
  • A strong academic background in a relevant subject, such as biology, chemistry, or physics.
What We Offer

The University of Cambridge is a world-leading institution with a strong reputation for research excellence. The CRUK CI is a state-of-the-art research facility with access to cutting-edge equipment and expertise. The student will have the opportunity to work with a team of experienced researchers and to contribute to the development of new technologies and knowledge in the field of cancer biology.

How to Apply

To apply for this PhD research project, please visit the University of Cambridge's online application portal. You will need to submit a statement of interest, academic transcripts, and evidence of competence in English (if applicable). The closing date for applications is 4th November 2024, with interviews expected to take place in January 2025.
