Job Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Senior Biomedical Laboratory Assistant to support the Scientific and Consultant teams in the department of Histology at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital with rotation as required to the Histology Satellite lab at the Northern General Hospital.

Main Responsibilities
  • Undertake roles in specimen reception, specimen dissection transcription, specimen processing, computer data entry, slide scanning for digital pathology, operation of laboratory equipment, filing and retrieval of specimens, glass slides and paraffin blocks.
  • Pre-analytical processing of samples to include receipt, preparation and processing.
  • Deal with direct queries from Medical Staff, Nursing Staff and other Service Users including telephone enquiries and taking appropriate action as necessary.
  • Prepare slides to load and unload digital pathology scanners.
  • Assist Scientific Staff in laboratory activities.
  • Store and retrieve biological material.

Requirements

To succeed in this role you must have:

  • A Level 3 qualification NVQ, 2 A-Levels, Apprenticeship or IBMS Certificate of Achievement (Part I) plus Significant laboratory experience or Extensive laboratory experience in the relevant discipline.
  • Ability to follow and work to Standard Operating Procedures and Policy.
