About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Biomedical Scientist to join our team in the Haematology laboratories at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a Biomedical Scientist, you will play a crucial role in providing scientific services to patients as an aid to clinical diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist, providing scientific services to patients as an aid to clinical diagnosis.
  • Participate on the 24/7 out of hours rota and undertake a wide range of complex analytical procedures.
  • Perform a range of manual, semi-automated and automated tests using scientific knowledge and experience to comment upon and validate results in line with ISO 15189.
  • Be responsible for the production of accurate and timely Laboratory investigations.
  • Assist in maintaining high scientific and technical standards.
  • Adhere to all Trust and Departmental Policies.
  • Assist in planned Research and Development.
  • Promote and maintain a high standard of relevant education and training.
  • Stimulate and take part in scientific and technical research and development.

Person Specification

  • BSc in Biomedical Sciences or other IBMS accredited degree.
  • Registered with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • Specialist Portfolio or old HPC Logbook, or evidence of significant post-registration experience.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Evidence of continued CPD, including relevant courses with regards to H&S, leadership, quality or training.
  • Haematology NHS Laboratory experience.
  • Understanding of biomedical scientist role.
  • Routine automated haematology & Blood Film morphology.
  • Automated blood grouping and antibody screening.
