Early Years Teaching Assistant

Salary: £22,070 FTE. The role is based in a Primary school just outside Launceston.

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Early Years Teaching Assistant to work closely with the Pre-School/Nursery Manager in caring for and assisting early years children. This involves helping with practical organisation of pre-school activities and ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and educational progress of the children.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Support individuals or groups of children across all areas of learning, under the direction of the Pre-School Manager, to develop their physical, intellectual, emotional, and social skills.
  • Assist with planning, evaluating, and delivering learning activities in line with the Early Years Framework and Development Matters in EYFS, encouraging children to work towards Early Learning Goals.
  • Monitor and document children's progress through observations, providing feedback to the Pre-School Manager and parents.
  • Engage children by supporting their interests and helping them access planned activities, including the use of IT resources.
  • Assist with day-to-day practical activities, such as tidying, serving snacks, and helping with personal hygiene routines.
  • Create and maintain a vibrant learning environment by preparing and updating wall displays.
  • Provide support to children with specific learning difficulties, ensuring they can fully access the EYFS curriculum.
  • Accompany children on outings and administer minor first aid or prescribed medications as needed.
  • Promote good behavior and self-discipline in line with the nursery's positive behavior policy.
Key Skills & Attributes:
  • Experience in early years settings or working with young children.
  • A strong understanding of the Early Years Framework.
  • Patience, creativity, and a nurturing approach.
  • Strong communication skills for working with children, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A valid DBS on the update service, or willingness to complete a new DBS check.
  • Necessary qualifications include a valid Early years Qualification - NVQ Level 3 or CACHE level 2.

This role offers an estimated salary of £22,070 per annum, depending on experience, and provides opportunities to progress from a temporary to permanent position in a supportive environment.
