Job Overview

The Managing Director is a senior leadership role responsible for driving the commercial success and strategic vision of the Production Team. This includes overseeing commercial performance, strategy, positioning, team leadership, entrepreneurial innovation, and client success.

Working closely with the CEO, the MD is a key influencer in shaping the company's present and future strategy, fostering a 'profit-first' mindset, and promoting accountability within the team.

To excel in this role, the MD must establish a positive, transparent relationship with the CEO built on trust and mutual respect.

The Managing Director serves as the highest point of escalation for matters within the London and New York studios, representing these studios to the broader company. This role demands a unique blend of leadership, commercial acumen, and accountability, as well as recruitment, team management, and operational 'studio building' skills.

While outbound business development is not a primary responsibility, the MD must work closely with the Business Development team to facilitate sales through efficient processes, timely execution, and business-mindedness within the client-facing team.

The role involves balancing business goals and client expectations with the realities of daily production in the studio. The Managing Director must effectively drive, inspire, shape, and elevate the day-to-day activities of all departments under their mandate.

This is a dynamic, fast-paced, and often pressured role that requires resilience, maturity, and adaptability to succeed.

To be effective, the Managing Director must possess excellent leadership ability, diplomacy, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail. They must also be able to respond quickly to team and client inquiries, analyze problems, and strategize appropriately.

The successful Managing Director will take ownership of the leadership, vision, profitability, and commercial success of the NORTH Team, as well as accountability and ownership of every function in that location.

  19. 8+ years' experience in Architectural Visualisation or a similar industry with a minimum of 4 years' experience in client management and creative strategy.
  20. A BA degree or equivalent in Marketing/Communications/Construction/Architecture/Architectural Visualisation desired but not necessary.
Main Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure the current and ongoing commercial success of the team through short-term planning and execution, as well as long-term strategic and structural improvement of the business' performance.
  2. Analyze client segments, regional, and sector-based opportunities and risks to position the company as a winner in the global competitive landscape.
  3. Work with the Commercial Director to maintain appropriate metrics and strategies and robust profit management processes to achieve this goal.
  4. Act as the highest point of escalation for any studio-related matters, including client-related issues, internal production, and people management.
  5. Responsible for supporting and managing the leaders in each function area to drive results in quality, creativity, production, client service, and culture.
  6. Manage client satisfaction.
  7. Identify ways to improve the creative and commercial operations in the studio while ensuring it translates to the other studios and the client experience across all states.
  8. Anticipate issues before they arise and communicate proactively with the client or the team to update them.
  9. Responsible for scheduling staff reviews for direct reports.
  10. Creating professional development plans for direct reports.
  11. Strengthening and expanding relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
  12. Working cross-functionally with internal departments on the end-to-end implementation of projects for exceptional product delivery to clients.
  13. Drive internal initiatives to improve process, policies, and outcomes in all areas.
  14. Implement new policies and procedures and ensure teams and training are using them effectively.
  15. Assist with company and strategic initiatives.
  16. Establish and manage training, salary, and studio budgets and ensure they align with business goals and requirements.
  17. Maintain an ongoing recruitment pipeline to ensure the company has access to the best talent.
