Job Description: House of Commons Policy Advisor

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Policy Advisor to join our team at the House of Commons. As a Policy Advisor, you will provide policy advice and analysis to support the work of the Science, Innovation and Technology Committee.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop expertise in the Committee's area of work and advise on, arrange, and lead committee inquiries;
  • Provide written and oral briefing to support committee hearings and produce reports to communicate committee findings;
  • Support media and public engagement work, working closely with MPs, Peers, and high-profile individuals and organisations in the public, private, and third sectors.

You will be responsible for identifying suitable people to speak to the Committee, preparing briefing material and questions for witnesses, attending Committee events and meetings, and conducting analysis of evidence.

Requirements:
  • An ability to research and analyse information to meet tight deadlines;
  • A detailed knowledge and understanding of issues in science, innovation, and technology, including relevant policy, research, practical or scrutiny experience;
  • An ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.

The salary for this role is £44,008-£51,409 per annum, depending on skills and experience. This position offers an attractive range of benefits, including 30 days' annual leave (increasing to 35 days after first full leave year), civil service pension, access to training and development, flexible working, interest-free season ticket loan, and bicycle loan.
