Safeguarding and Compliance Specialist

The House of Commons is seeking an experienced safety professional to lead the development and implementation of its Parliamentary Safety Management System (SMS). The successful candidate will work closely with the Deputy Director to develop and implement the bicameral safety strategy, and will be responsible for setting safety compliance frameworks and developing a robust system for monitoring and managing company safety performance and management information.
The role will involve reviewing and developing the Parliamentary Safety Management System (SMS) and associated policies, procedures, and frameworks. This will include the development of a compliance management system and database to enable timely management and performance reporting to the HoC and HoL Clerks, Executive Teams, and committee meetings.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing a compliance management system and database to enable timely management and performance reporting
- Reviewing and developing the Parliamentary Safety Management System (SMS) and associated policies, procedures, and frameworks
- Implementing safety assurance and governance frameworks and ownership of the annual and quarterly assurance review process
- Strategic health and safety at a senior management level
To be successful in this role, the successful candidate will need to have experience of developing and setting safety strategy, policies, and procedures, as well as safety performance reporting at a senior level. They will also need to have strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong collaborative partnerships to achieve organisational goals, whilst upholding the values of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
The role will sit within the Parliamentary Safety Team (PST) in the House of Commons Governance Office, and the successful candidate will be required to work closely with other teams and stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of the Parliamentary Safety Management System (SMS).
