Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Extraction Specialist to join our R&D Innovation team at The British American Tobacco Group. As an Extraction Specialist, you will play a critical role in driving innovation and sustainability in our product development process.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement extraction capabilities, including method development to achieve target specifications.
  2. Manage stock and analytical data, ensuring accurate recording and management.
  3. Verify sample specifications for consumer research.
  4. Conduct ageing studies to optimize product quality.
  5. Develop methods to enhance process ESG metrics and improve manufacturing consistency.
  6. Build a robust patent portfolio from a process and extract composition perspective.
  7. Monitor emerging extraction technologies and potential external partners.

Requirements:

  1. Extensive hands-on experience in various extraction technologies, including solvent extraction and SFE.
  2. Hands-on experience in detection methods, including LC/MS and HP-TLC.
  3. Good knowledge in chromatography science, including thin layer chromatography, SFC, liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, and spectrophotometry techniques.
  4. Hands-on experience in standard lab testing, including density and pH measurements.
  5. Proven strategic thinking, analyzing critical factors and variables to influence long-term project success.
  6. Successful collaboration among diverse cultures, with good initiative and independent thinking, effective communication, briefing, and presentation skills.
  7. Resilient, flexible, and confident to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and ambiguous environment.
  8. PhD in Phytochemistry, Pharmacognosy, or Botany with a strong background in natural product research.
