Specialist Vision Impairment Teaching Assistant

This role is an exciting opportunity to join our team at Torfaen County Borough Council and make a real difference in the lives of children and young people with vision impairment.
About the RoleThe Specialist Vision Impairment Teaching Assistant will work closely with Qualified Teachers of Vision Impaired (QTVI) and Habilitation Specialists to deliver support for access to learning and learning to access education, independent living skills, and early mobility and orientation skills.
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering learning activities, monitoring and assessing progress, recording and reporting, and supporting an inclusive ethos for all learners.
Key Responsibilities- Support Qualified Teachers of Vision Impaired (QTVI) and Habilitation Specialists in the delivery of support for access to learning and learning to access education, independent living skills, and early mobility and orientation skills.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver learning activities, monitoring and assessing progress, recording and reporting.
- Support learners' development within agreed work programmes (Braille/print) with a key focus on literacy, numeracy, and well-being.
- Prepare, plan, and manage specific activities/teaching programmes and ensure the learner develops increased confidence and independence within the school setting, home, and the wider community.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of vision impairment and its implications on development, as well as experience of working with children and young people with vision impairment in a variety of settings.
They will also have a Braille qualification or be willing to work towards one, and possess Welsh language skills.
A full driving licence and access to a vehicle are also required due to the nature of the role.
