POSITION SUMMARY:

Vision Impairment Service (VIS)

The Specialist Teaching Assistant will play a crucial role in the educational journey of children and young individuals experiencing vision impairment. This position involves the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational activities tailored to enhance the learning experience. Collaborating closely with Qualified Teachers of Vision Impairment (QTVI) and Habilitation Specialists, the assistant will concentrate on fostering skills in literacy, numeracy, and personal well-being. Furthermore, the assistant will support learners in building confidence and independence both within the educational environment and in broader community settings.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant qualifications such as NNEB, BTEC, NVQ, or equivalent in child development
  • Willingness to pursue a Braille qualification
  • Comprehensive understanding of vision impairment and its developmental implications
  • Proven experience working with children and young people who have vision impairment
  • Proficiency in the Welsh language

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Intervenor Accreditation (Sense)
  • Familiarity with low vision aids
  • Experience in supporting learners with sensory impairments
