As a Deputy Culture Editor, you will play a key role in driving our culture and lifestyle coverage, working closely with our editorial team to deliver high-quality content that engages and informs our audience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Write engaging features, expert analysis, and weekly arts newsletters
  • Commission and edit exciting features and reviews
  • Lead on coverage of books, theatre, and art subsections
  • Edit and facilitate across other areas of culture and lifestyle
  • Run the department in the Head of Culture and Lifestyle's absence
  • Help manage and nurture the in-house culture team
  • Secure interviews with public figures in the arts
  • Work on partnerships, including liaising with external stakeholders and colleagues across the business
Requirements
  • Experience as a feature writer and commissioning editor for a newspaper or news website
  • Excellent contacts spanning the book, film, TV, music, comedy, and theatre industries
  • Ability to spot trends and formulate original ideas across culture and lifestyle
  • Ability to work well with a team and manage more junior members of staff
  • Exceptional knowledge of the arts
  • Understanding of The Independent brand and audience
