About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Commissioning Editor to join our team at Penguin Books Limited. As a Commissioning Editor, you will be responsible for seeking out, developing, and acquiring innovative and exciting projects to grow our successful non-fiction list.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commission and develop new non-fiction titles for children aged 0–7 years
  • Work closely with authors, illustrators, and agents to identify and acquire new projects
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key industry contacts, including authors, illustrators, and agents
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to ensure that all commissioned titles meet the highest standards of quality and commercial appeal
  • Contribute to the development of the company's non-fiction list, including identifying trends and opportunities in the market

Requirements

  • Proven track record of commissioning successful non-fiction titles with international reach
  • Strong market knowledge and understanding of the children's book market
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with authors, illustrators, and agents
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Passion for children's literature and a commitment to producing high-quality books that meet the needs of children and their parents
