Residential Support Worker Opportunity

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Support Worker to join our client residential care homes in Wakefield, South Yorkshire. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable young people.

Job Summary:

As a Residential Support Worker, you will work directly with children and young people living in residential care settings, supporting their emotional, behavioural, and social needs. You will play a key role in helping them develop essential life skills, fostering positive relationships, and encouraging personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide care and support for young people in residential settings, helping them with daily routines and personal development.
  • Establish positive and trusting relationships with young people, offering emotional support when needed.
  • Promote a safe and nurturing environment, encouraging positive behaviour and social interactions.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and interventions to support the emotional and behavioural needs of young people.
  • Work collaboratively with team members, social workers, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for each young person.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of care plans, individual risk assessments, and behaviour plans.
  • Support young people with life skills development, including education, personal care, and independence.
  • Monitor and report on the progress and well-being of young people to inform care plans and strategies.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working in a residential care setting or with vulnerable children and young people.
  • A strong understanding of the challenges facing children in care and the strategies to support them effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build trust with young people.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with young people who may present challenging behaviours.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of a 24/7 residential environment.
  • A valid DBS registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply for one.
  • A relevant qualification in Social Care or Childcare is desirable but not essential.
