Content Acquisition Manager

The Telegraph Magazine is seeking a highly skilled Editorial Commissioning Specialist to join its award-winning team.
The successful candidate will have a broad range of knowledge and interests that span various subjects, including politics, sport, technology, and fashion. They will be able to identify compelling long-form journalism topics that will resonate with our intelligent and affluent audience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Commission and edit long-form features, interviews, and news features, with a focus on securing exclusive interviews across all subject areas.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with literary, entertainment, and arts contacts, as well as a willingness to expand these connections across wider sectors of interest.
- Identify and recruit freelance writers and build relationships with them to secure high-quality content.
- Oversee regular magazine features as required.
- Generate a steady stream of fresh, innovative ideas for The Telegraph Magazine's intelligent and affluent demographic.
This role is ideal for a motivated and experienced journalist who wants to leverage their existing skills and experience to take on large-scale projects across multiple platforms.
The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the different requirements of print and digital presentation, as well as social media and newsletter promotion.
They will be expected to analyze The Telegraph's performance metrics and develop new strategies to build on them. This role offers the opportunity to develop innovative approaches to content, which will be rolled out across other parts of the editorial team.
The ideal candidate will be brimming with ideas and comfortable commissioning a long-form report on a technological innovation as they are an interview with a reality TV star.
They will have an excellent eye for newsworthy topics, identifying unpublished books and upcoming TV documentaries that warrant feature coverage.
The Telegraph Magazine has high production values, and the Editorial Commissioning Specialist will work closely with the picture director, art director, visual storytelling, and digital teams to brief them on each feature's direction and requirements.
This is an office-based role, with opportunities to spend time out developing relationships with writers and publicists and using initiative and experience to uncover brilliant ideas.
The Telegraph Magazine editor encourages commissioners to bring their own energy and perspective to features and not be limited by traditional ideas.
Key Skills:
- Experience in commissioning and editing long-form content.
- Digital knowledge and the ability to think in a 360-degree way.
- The ability to rework copy quickly and under pressure.
- The ability to commission and edit long-form content that resonates with The Telegraph's demographic.
- The ability to work with both seasoned writers and nurture upcoming writers, editing features with intelligence and sensitivity.
- Good knowledge of media law.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to create and nurture contacts to bring exclusives to The Telegraph.
- A voracious appetite for reading widely across print, digital, and social media to identify compelling stories from around the world.
