About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Designer to join our award-winning Art department at Penguin Michael Joseph. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for designing captivating book covers and interiors for our illustrated non-fiction titles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design book covers and interiors for illustrated non-fiction titles, including cookery, self-help, fashion, and gift books.
  • Work closely with the publishing teams, production, editorial, sales, and marketing to ensure seamless collaboration.
  • Attend weekly covers meetings and provide art direction for photoshoots.
  • Select images for layout and ensure high-quality design standards.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in designing illustrated books, preferably in adult non-fiction.
  • Expertise in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, with a deep understanding of book design principles.
  • Strong knowledge of typography, including font pairing and type hierarchies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication skills.
