Job Title: Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Consultant

This is a substantive post for which 10 PA's are available. All potential applicants are encouraged to read the complete job description before applying. The post holder will provide specialist out-patient and consultation services to children and young people up to the age of 18 years in a community CAMHS service. Based at Oldham CAMHS, you will join 3 other Consultant colleagues within the Oldham CAMHS team and will also interface with other agencies including the Local Authority, Paediatrics and Working Age Adult services.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Provide a generic mental health service to children and adolescents up to their 18th birthday.
  • Manage a cohort of children and young people with a wide range of mental health needs.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide direct clinical work, supervision, and effective multi-agency liaison.
  • Undertake local strategic management tasks as appropriate to the post.
Key Responsibilities of the Post
  1. Provide a psychiatric service for children and young people in Oldham.
  2. Undertake direct clinical work and provide supervision to the MDT and work in partnership with other agencies.
  3. Take clinical responsibility for a caseload.
  4. Manage a needs-led interface with Working Age Psychiatry.
  5. Work creatively with other agencies who are involved with children and young people.
Person Specification
  • Full GMC Registration.
  • Possession of CCT in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, or be within 6 months of achieving this or entered on the GMC Specialist Register.
  • Section 12 Approval under Mental Health Act 1983, or be eligible for approval.
Special Aptitudes & Skills
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Cultural competency.
  • Awareness of key legislation NSF, NICE, MHA, MCA, Children Act.
