About the Role

The CAMHS Youth Justice Service Mental Health Practitioner will be a key member of the multi-disciplinary CAMHS Service, based within the Youth Justice Service. This role will focus on early intervention and ensuring that vulnerable children and young people have access to mental health advice and support.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality mental health assessments for children and young people referred to the Youth Justice Service.
  • Identify the need for assessment through liaison with the Police, Courts, Probation, Youth Justice Service, CAMHS, and other relevant agencies.
  • Provide access to a range of quality psychotherapeutic interventions, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of various therapeutic approaches.
  • Offer consultation to Youth Justice Practitioners and provide clinical and managerial supervision to the wider CAMHS team.
  • Work as a co-therapist with other members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) where appropriate.
  • Manage a defined complex caseload and undertake case management responsibilities within the caseload.
  • Contribute to the development of the Oldham CAMHS Youth Justice Care Pathway.

About Us

The Oldham CAMHS Youth Justice care pathway is commissioned to provide a targeted service for children and young people who are open to the service. It is a consultation, assessment, and treatment care pathway for children and young people identified as having mental or emotional health difficulties.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Professional qualifications relevant to work in child and adolescent mental health nursing, social work, or clinical psychology to masters level or equivalent experience.
  • Specialist post-qualification training in psychological therapy with children and families to at least the equivalent of a postgraduate diploma level.
  • Accreditation with the appropriate accrediting bodies governing the specific modality.

Desirable

  • Additional postgraduate qualifications relevant to child mental health.
  • Additional accredited training.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with children, young people who have been involved with the youth justice system.
  • Experience of working with children, young people, and their families presenting with mental health concerns or problems.
  • Experience of working in a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) setting.
  • Managing a caseload.
  • Experience of providing evidence-based psychological therapy to children and young people and their families.
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision and line management to team members.
  • Experience of using Routine Outcome Measures (ROM).
  • Experience of teaching and liaising with other professional groups.
  • Significant experience working in a multi-agency context.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Theoretical approach and understanding of child and young people's mental health and development.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and government policy relating to children and young people's mental health.
  • Child protection knowledge and practice.
  • Specific theoretical knowledge related to therapeutic specialty.
  • Understanding of principles and methods of clinical audit, research, and service evaluation.
  • Understanding of current multi-agency landscape, including public sector reform.
