About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Commercial Legal Counsel to join our team on a 3 day week basis. As a key member of our legal team, you will provide expert advice on a wide range of commercial contracts and agreements, working closely with our Legal Manager and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice on commercial contracts, including supply of goods and services, engineering and construction, logistics, outsourcing, and collaboration/partnerships.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external lawyers on specialist areas, such as energy, environmental, financial regulations, data protection, intellectual property, cyber security, and GDPR.
  • Support the achievement of department objectives and supervise junior members in their work.
  • Develop new templates and internal procedures, and provide legal training to the organisation as needed.
  • Manage the legal budget and external legal advisors, controlling external spend.
Requirements
  • Qualified solicitor/barrister in the UK, with a minimum of 5 years' post-qualification experience in a regional, national or international commercial law firm and/or in an in-house legal team.
  • Minimum of a 2:1 in a bachelor's degree, with good accompanying academic records prior to this.
  • Excellent analytical, drafting, and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate commercial contracts.
  • Confidence to work autonomously, prioritise tasks, and manage a high workload, with resilience to work under pressure in a fast-changing commercial environment.
  • Ability to balance customer expectations and commercial demands against legal and regulatory risks.
  • Open and transparent approach, able to work in an international environment with exposure to diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Solid aptitude for leadership and management, accompanied by good project management and conflict skills.
  • IT skills in standard Microsoft office packages.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential, with ability in other languages welcomed.
