About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Sales Engineer to join our dynamic Energy Storage team at Wärtsilä. As a Sales Engineer, you will be the subject matter expert for Energy Storage in the Africa and European Union (EU) regions, responsible for technical design of systems and identification of business models that support the economic case to deploy storage.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Work closely with the sales team to identify and engage with key customers/accounts within the area, and support and maintain relationships relative to Energy Storage.
  2. Manage RFP response process, including determining bidding strategy and partner selection, and working together with partners to submit winning responses and drafting the actual proposal.
  3. Lead proposal creation for energy storage projects, writing proposal content to specific customer requirements and unique value points for the integrated solution.
  4. Specify appropriate system components, calculate component ratings and quantities, and create detailed bills-of-material for material and labour cost estimates.
  5. Interface with vendors to understand the form, fit and function of their products and services, and determine which products are best suited for an application or project.
  6. Utilize value concepts & tools to define the right value solutions for each individual customer.
  7. Help further development of Sales Tools for energy storage.
Requirements
  1. BS/MS in Electrical Engineering / Power Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  2. Experience with the energy storage and renewable energy markets, projects, and products (bi-directional inverters, various battery chemistries, PV, wind turbines, flywheels, etc.).
  3. Able to read and understand system schematics, single-line drawings, and layout drawings.
  4. Strong written and oral skills, with the ability to create grammatically correct and properly structured English proposal documents, and present technical solutions and products in a consistent manner to customers.
  5. Competent with ACAD or equivalent drafting tools.
  6. Knowledgeable in utility systems and interconnection requirements for electric generators.
  7. Passion for innovation, ability to adapt to fast-changing market demands, working independently and as a team member.
  8. Willingness to take ownership and produce results.
  9. Solid organizational skills, including attention to detail, multi-tasking skills, and a strong work ethic.
  10. Energetic and enthusiastic approach.
  11. Ability to travel as required (estimated 10-20% of time).
