About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will be responsible for leading a team of colleagues to deliver exceptional customer service and achieve sales targets in a fast-paced retail environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the team to deliver a seamless shopping experience for customers
  • Take ownership of store activities, including opening and closing the store, and ensuring all decisions are customer-focused
  • Be the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager, providing guidance and support to ensure smooth store operations
  • Support the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events, creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and well-presented store, prioritizing the replenishment of products that matter to customers
  • Proactively manage queues to deliver a great shopping experience for customers
  • Co-ordinate colleagues to ensure they deliver daily priorities and have their breaks at the right time to fit around trade patterns
  • Be knowledgeable about the store, coordinating others to deliver practical actions to improve store performance
  • Follow company health and safety routines, ensuring colleagues do the same
  • Deliver communication to the team, ensuring they are kept well-informed
  • Look for ways to simplify operations and share ideas with the Store Manager
  • Always put the customer first, considering their needs in everything you do
  • Resolve customer queries, leaving them with a smile on their face
  • Adjust the service you give to each customer to meet their needs
  • Recognize and celebrate colleagues giving great service
  • Understand what may be getting in the way of delivering great service and help remove these obstacles
  • Resolve colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager, or escalate to the Store Manager where appropriate
  • Ensure the store is staffed appropriately, reacting to short-term absences/sickness by finding cover for shifts
  • Be a recognized Keyholder for the store, attending alarm call-outs where necessary to ensure store safety and security
  • Monitor and action internal comms, ensuring messages are acted upon in a timely manner and all colleagues are kept informed
  • Co-ordinate colleagues to meet customer needs and store operations, feeding back to the Store Manager any issues with colleagues in the building during shifts
  • Balance time across service and replenishment areas of the store
  • Actively support the Store Manager in managing absence within the store, ensuring return-to-work interviews are conducted for CSA colleagues and absence triggers reported and acted upon in line with the One Stop absence policy procedures
  • Build meaningful relationships with the Area Manager and People Partner, ensuring you have the knowledge, ability, and confidence to escalate relevant issues in a timely manner, seek out advice and support when needed, and benefit from in-the-moment coaching opportunities
