Support a Secondary School in Barnet

We are looking for an experienced Behavioural Mentor to join our team based in a Secondary School Provisions Unit. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting students with autism across the spectrum.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of young people with autistic spectrum conditions (ASC). As a Behavioural Mentor, you will work closely with our team to establish routines, consider learning environments, manage changes and transitions, communicate effectively, integrate student interests, and build resilience.

School Overview

The school provides a fantastic opportunity to work with students who have been diagnosed with ASC. They offer up to 49 places for pupils with ASC, providing a supportive environment that focuses on developing social cognition through the SCERTS framework and Social Thinking curriculum.

Curriculum and Learning

As far as possible, students who can access the main school will follow the National Curriculum. The long-term view is to take up to 5 GCSEs at the end of Y11, which is currently sufficient to gain access to 6th form courses within the main school. Students follow a highly differentiated curriculum focusing on developing social cognition, ASDAN/CoPE courses, Personal and Social Development curriculum, and Employability and Work-Related Learning curriculum.

Requirements and Benefits

We are looking for a candidate who has experience working with children or young adults with special education needs. You should be able to possess the following skills and support the following:

  • Establish a routine with students
  • Consider their learning environment
  • Manage changes and transitions
  • Communicate clearly
  • Integrate their interests
  • Work with their parents/carers
  • Build your resilience

A competitive salary of £85 (going up to £100 per day) reflects the importance we place on this role. We believe it's essential to provide a supportive environment for our students, and we're committed to investing in the right people to help us achieve this goal.
