Job Description

The role of Construction Project Lead is to proactively lead and effectively coordinate construction phase activities within the Project Teams for the Southern Water AMP6/7 framework program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create a knowingly safe working environment by enforcing health and safety regulations and ensuring adherence to company policies.
  • Coordinate and control initial site set-up in conjunction with the Site Manager, utilizing effective project management techniques to ensure smooth execution.
  • Manage direct workforce (foreman, gangers, and direct labour force) in the self-delivery of civil works during the construction phase of projects, providing guidance and training as necessary.
  • Deliver more complex civil works, applying engineering principles and practices to ensure high-quality results.
  • Carry out daily ten-minute briefings and toolbox talks, focusing on specific tasks and hazards.
  • Read and understand construction drawings, taking accurate material take-offs and communicating them to relevant stakeholders.
  • Write RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) and brief the workforce on them, ensuring they understand the task requirements and potential risks.
  • Manage the works to meet a programme, ensuring the right level of resources are maintained for the tasks and that deadlines are met.
  • Participate in weekly programme/progress meetings during the construction phase to advise on progress and resource deployment, highlighting areas of concern or improvement.
  • Efficiently manage construction resources including labour, plant, and materials in line with budgets, minimizing waste and optimizing productivity.
  • Liaise with subcontractors on site to ensure efficient delivery of the projects, maintaining good communication and relationships.
  • Work across multiple projects at any given time (dependent on size), adapting to changing priorities and needs.
  • Identify discipline-specific technical issues and provide feedback to the project team for resolution, promoting continuous improvement and best practice.
  • Develop direct reports to drive and achieve continuous improvement, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.

Salary Range: £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
