About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Accountant to join our Financial Control team at Close Brothers Asset Management. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for managing all tax affairs for the division, ensuring tax compliance and optimization.

Key Responsibilities

VAT Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit accurate and timely VAT returns for the UK entities, ensuring compliance with Making Tax Digital (MTD) regulations.
  • Present VAT returns to the Finance Leadership team for approval and submission.
  • Perform VAT accrual, suspense, and balance sheet reconciliations as required.
  • Conduct research and provide timely and practical responses to VAT-related queries from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Liaise with the wider Finance team to ensure accurate recognition of VAT on sales and purchase invoices.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payments to HMRC.

Corporation Tax Responsibilities

  • Prepare month-end corporation tax accruals and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Collate tax computations and returns in a timely and accurate manner, providing oversight to the Finance Leadership team on significant variances or balances.
  • Liaise with external third-party providers to prepare returns and supply required information.
  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of tax computations and returns with HMRC.
  • Review monthly and quarterly deferred taxation positions and balance sheet reconciliations.

Senior Accounting Officer Responsibilities

  • Ensure adequate controls are in place across the wider business to meet Senior Accounting Officer regulations.
  • Maintain documentation and Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) records.
  • Prepare the annual Senior Accounting Officer pack and present to the Senior Finance Leadership Team for review and approval.

General Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing support to the business, delivering advice and guidance on new initiatives, revenue streams, and tax implications.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the business with HMRC on all tax matters.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects to provide taxation input.
  • Implement a continuous improvement ethic, leveraging technology and latest legislation to ensure accurate and efficient working.
  • Advise on accounting aspects of taxation, including VAT.
  • Conduct research to respond to tax-related queries from internal and external stakeholders in a timely and practical manner.
  • Support the wider Finance function in preparing detailed taxation calculations, completing tax forms, and journals.
  • Ensure adherence to Governance and Compliance requirements and complete reporting and reviewing activities required by Regulatory Bodies.
