Job Summary

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled Consultant in Haematopathology to join its Haemato-Oncology Diagnostic Service (HODS). The successful candidate will be responsible for reporting bone marrow trephine biopsies, lymph node biopsies, and other relevant solid tissue samples in the context of a Specialist Integrated Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service (SIHMDS).

Main Duties

The main duties of this post include:

  • Reporting haematopathology specimens, including bone marrow trephine biopsies, lymph node biopsies, and other relevant solid tissue samples.
  • Working independently to integrate reporting of Haematopathology specimens, preferably within a SIHMDS or equivalent.
  • Collaborating with an established team of consultant, scientific, and technical staff to support the diagnosis and management of haematological malignancies.

About the Role

The successful candidate will join a UKAS-accredited SIHMDS, which acts as the primary referral centre in East Anglia for patients with known or suspected haematological malignancies. The service works closely with the East Genomic Laboratory Hub on site at Cambridge University Hospitals and has strong links with multiple Cambridge University research groups working on haematological malignancies.

Requirements

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing, and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues. Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.
