About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our team at Mill Lodge, a 5-bedded learning disabilities nursing respite unit in Norwich. As a Healthcare Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality, person-centred care to adults with learning disabilities, multiple physical disabilities, and complex healthcare needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support to Band 5 Nurses and the team to ensure a safe, efficient, and evidence-based delivery of patient care.
  • Assist with cooking, shopping, and cleaning as needed within the unit.
  • Monitor and record patients' clinical observations, as required.
  • Assist with patient nutritional requirements, including artificial feeding and supporting individuals with dysphagia issues.
  • Contribute to the writing and delivery of individual care plans, highlighting any issues at the earliest opportunity.
  • Carry out assigned tasks in delivering and supporting direct patient care under the direction of a registered nurse.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, promoting independence and choice.
  • Support individuals to access community facilities, as needed.

Person Specification

  • 3 GCSEs A-C equivalent, including English.
  • Ability to speak and write English to an appropriate standard.
  • NVQ level 2 in a relevant subject area.
  • Experience of supporting individuals with learning disabilities.
  • Effective communication skills, including non-verbal skills.
  • Commitment to supporting individuals with learning disabilities to be as independent as possible.
  • Good observational skills and problem-solving abilities.
