Job Description

This is a critical role within JACOBS DOUWE EGBERTS, responsible for managing the number one customer and establishing the company as a dynamic and challenging number 2 supplier in the coffee category. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing a strong commercial relationship to grow the joint business.

The role involves managing multiple external and internal stakeholders, including functional management of 2 reports and full P&L ownership. The role is home-based, with regular travel to customer offices and weekly connections in the JACOBS DOUWE EGBERTS Hurley or Banbury sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver Total Tesco and One-Stop P&Ls, including volume, value, GP, and GP% measures through tailored customer-focused plans, NPD, and promotional plans.
  • Develop strong, collaborative relationships across all functions within the customer to drive growth in-store and online, present and deliver NPD, and ensure optimum range, space, and distribution for all JACOBS DOUWE EGBERTS products.
  • Own the buying relationship, from weekly meetings, promotional proposals to negotiating collaborative long-term joint business plans and strategic change agreements.
  • Confidently sell and embed the JACOBS DOUWE EGBERTS category vision with appropriate in-store execution, utilizing category, market, customer, and consumer data.
  • Represent the customer and collaborate cross-functionally within JACOBS DOUWE EGBERTS on promotional evaluation, online initiatives, shopper marketing, including field sales, pipeline plans, and bespoke Tesco initiatives, ensuring stakeholders are aligned to Tesco-specific strategies.
  • Internal customer commercial management, including promotional analysis, leading monthly commercial reviews, including opportunities and risks, and annual customer business planning.
  • Functionally manage 2 reports, including coaching and development of key account management skills.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of commercial experience in a retail FMCG brand environment, including management of a Grocery top 4 customer.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, establishing and developing meaningful, collaborative business relationships, and the ability to flex style to the situation/audience.
  • Persuasive selling and presentation skills, using a variety of data sources to deliver a compelling proposal both externally with the customer and internally.
  • Proven track record of navigating complex negotiations and managing significant commercial strategic change.
  • Demonstrates resilience and agility to flex to ever-changing demands, both internal and external.
  • Ability to find creative solutions to challenges.
  • Degree-educated (or equivalent).
  • Cross-functional experience (with sales or broader).
