Job Title: Deputy Ward Manager

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Deputy Ward Manager to join our team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our ward management team, you will be responsible for providing clinical leadership and management to our nursing staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and contributing to the overall success of our trust.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide clinical leadership and management to nursing staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care.
  • Assist the Sister/Charge Nurse in the establishment of an efficient working environment, making the most effective and efficient use of staff, supplies, and services.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day management of the clinical area, delegate duties and care appropriately, and maintain overall responsibility.
  • Responsible for the assessment and subsequent ordering of bank and agency staff within the clinical area.
  • Involved in the development, assessment, and implementation of guidelines, protocols, and pathways.
  • Deputise for the Sister/Charge Nurse in their absence.
  • Attend and participate in monthly departmental meetings and ward rounds in the absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience of managing a ward, including management of rotas, managing competencies, resources, and staff.
  • Experience of teaching, assessing, and supervising others in a clinical setting.
  • Ability to organise and plan own time and that of junior staff and learners.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
  • Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information.
