About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Support Specialist to join our team as the Lead Teaching Assistant in our Nurture Hub. This is a challenging yet rewarding role that requires a deep understanding of Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and the ability to provide targeted support to children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Nurture Hub Team: Provide strategic leadership and guidance to the Nurture Hub team, ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for children with SEMH needs.
  • Develop Individualised Support Plans: Work closely with the SENCO, class teachers, and external professionals to develop and implement individualised support plans that meet the specific needs of each child.
  • Deliver Interventions and Activities: Deliver tailored interventions and activities that promote emotional resilience, social skills, and positive behaviour in children with SEMH needs.
  • Build Relationships with Children: Build trusting and supportive relationships with children, helping them to develop confidence, self-esteem, and positive coping strategies.
  • Monitor Progress: Monitor and record children's progress, providing regular feedback to the SENCO, teachers, and parents/carers.
  • Collaborate with the Wider School Team: Work collaboratively with the wider school team to ensure that the Nurture Hub supports whole-school inclusion and the well-being of all pupils.
  • Provide Guidance and Support: Provide guidance and support to other Teaching Assistants and staff in understanding and managing SEMH needs within the classroom.
  • Engage with Parents/Carers: Engage with parents/carers, offering advice and support to help them understand and manage their child's SEMH needs at home.
  • Participate in Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development to stay informed about best practices in supporting children with SEMH needs.
Essential Requirements
  • Experience Working with SEMH Needs: Experience working with children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, preferably in a school setting.
  • Strong Understanding of SEMH Challenges: Strong understanding of SEMH challenges and effective strategies to support children's emotional well-being and behaviour.
  • Excellent Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, staff, and parents/carers.
  • Leadership Skills: Leadership skills, with experience in managing and supporting other staff members.
  • Nurturing Approach: A nurturing and patient approach, with the ability to create a calm and supportive learning environment.
  • Safeguarding Commitment: Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Relevant Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in education, mental health, or child development would be an advantage.
Desirable
  • Experience in Leading a Specialised Support Unit: Experience in leading or managing a specialised support unit, such as a Nurture Hub or similar provision.
  • Knowledge of Interventions and Therapeutic Approaches: Knowledge of specific interventions or therapeutic approaches for supporting children with SEMH needs.
  • Mental Health First Aid Training: Training in mental health first aid or a similar area.
