Job Title: Craft Operative, Multi-Skilled Bricklayer

We are seeking a skilled Craft Operative to join our East Midlands team at the Canal & River Trust. As a Craft Operative, you will play a vital role in maintaining and preserving our waterway network, ensuring it remains safe and accessible for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out maintenance and repairs works to the waterway infrastructure, including locks, bridges, and aqueducts.
  • Use carpentry expertise to manufacture and refurbish lock gates and associated equipment.
  • Operate a variety of machinery, plant, and tools in accordance with safety standards.
  • Undertake general housekeeping of personal equipment, workshop equipment, and workspace.
  • Respond to customer queries and requirements, including emergencies.
  • Assist with the measurement of locks and lock gates for manufacture.
  • Understand and interpret technical drawings to translate into production.
  • Work alongside and supervise volunteers to ensure the Trust has sufficient resources.
  • Operate regionally, displaying flexibility to deliver the nationally prioritized works program.
Requirements:
  • Apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline, such as joinery, carpentry, or bricklaying.
  • Experience handling plant and equipment, including chainsaws, hand power tools, and fork lift trucks.
  • Experience working within a relevant discipline, such as joinery, carpentry, or bricklaying.
  • Experience reading technical drawings.
  • Full valid UK driving license, as you will need to respond across the region and get to where the team needs you.
