Job Title: Craft Operative, Multi-Skilled Bricklayer

We are seeking a skilled Craft Operative to join our East Midlands team at the Canal & River Trust. As a key member of our waterway maintenance team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the preservation and maintenance of our historic canals, rivers, and waterways.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out maintenance and repairs works to the waterway infrastructure, ensuring network availability is maximised.
  • Use carpentry expertise to undertake the manufacture and refurbishment of lock gates and associated equipment.
  • Operate a variety of machinery, plant, tools, and other equipment in accordance with Canal & River Trust's safety standards.
  • Undertake general housekeeping of personal equipment, workshop equipment, and workspace, ensuring all are maintained to defined standards.
  • Respond to customers' queries and requirements, including responding to emergencies.
  • Assist with the measurement of locks and lock gates to identify correct lock gate measurements for manufacture.
  • Understand and interpret technical drawings to translate into production.
  • Work alongside and supervise volunteers to ensure the Trust has sufficient resources to be sustainable.
About You:

We are looking for an individual with a strong background in the building trade or carpentry, with experience handling plant and equipment. You will have a high level of competence in certain disciplines and be able to turn your hand to other skills. A valid UK driving licence is essential, as you will be required to travel across the region to undertake repair work.
