About the Role

The Matron is a highly influential and visible member of the maternity services team, supported by the Head and the Director of Midwifery. This key role is recognized as a crucial component in the delivery of the Maternity strategy.

Main Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with all stakeholders in the maternity services to deliver the Maternity strategy.

Act as a positive role model, providing expert clinical advice and support, promoting a woman and family-centered approach to maternity care.

Have excellent communication skills.

Manage and respond to complaints.

Oversee budgets and ensure appropriate provision and care for the management of resources for midwifery and support staff, consumables, and environment.

Create and sustain efficient care processes that provide high-quality clinical care.

Have the skills to assess and monitor care provided and have the knowledge to report this in a way that provides assurance to the senior leadership team.

Key Requirements

  • Registered Midwife
  • Evidence of substantial clinical experience and ability to function at the required level
  • Demonstrable commitment to and expertise in midwifery
  • Current Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor
