Matron for Maternity Services

The Matron for Maternity Services will be a highly visible member of the service's team, supported by the Heads and Director of Midwifery. The role requires the skills and experience to manage staff, ensuring the continuous delivery of efficient and effective services.
To be responsible for setting and monitoring clinical standards and to play a proactive role in quality improvement, whilst demonstrating an awareness of the impact of each clinical area's activity, interacting with other areas to provide a seamless service.
Key Responsibilities- Work collaboratively with all stakeholders in the maternity services to deliver the Maternity strategy.
- Act as a positive role model providing expert clinical advice and support promoting a woman and family centre approach to maternity care.
- Manage and respond to complaints and feedback from people who use the service.
- Oversee budgets and ensure appropriate provision and care for the management of resources for midwifery and support staff, consumables and environment.
- Create and sustain efficient care processes that provide high quality clinical care.
- Actively engage with improvement in the service using recognised quality improvement methods.
- Be efficient to monitor and enact HR processes such as sickness absence management, disciplinary procedures, recruitment and retention of staff including succession planning.
The Matron for Harris Birthright Unit and Specialist Maternity Services takes responsibility for the following areas of maternity services:
- Maternity Assessment Unit
- Midwife Sonography
- Antenatal Screening
- NIPE (operational lead)
- Bereavement midwives
- Maternity Vaccinations
- Line management of Fetal Medicine unit midwives
- Registered Midwife
- Evidence of post registration education at degree level.
