Matron for Harris Birthright Unit and Specialist Maternity Services

The Matron for Harris Birthright Unit and Specialist Maternity Services will be responsible for advancing change in four main areas of impact – quality, patient experience, finance and efficiency, and leadership and skills development.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working collaboratively with all stakeholders in the maternity services to deliver the Maternity strategy.
- Acting as a positive role model providing expert clinical advice and support promoting a woman and family centre approach to maternity care.
- Managing and responding to complaints and feedback from people who use the service.
- Overseeing budgets and ensuring appropriate provision and care for the management of resources for midwifery and support staff, consumables and environment.
- Creating and sustaining efficient care processes that provide high quality clinical care.
- Actively engaging with improvement in the service using recognised quality improvement methods.
- Being efficient in monitoring and enacting HR processes such as sickness absence management, disciplinary procedures, recruitment and retention of staff including succession planning.
The Matron will also be responsible for the following areas of maternity services:
- Maternity Assessment Unit
- NIPE (operational lead)
- Bereavement midwives
- Maternity Vaccinations
- Line management of Fetal Medicine unit midwives
The ideal candidate will be a Registered Midwife with evidence of post-registration education at degree level.
They will also have experience of working in a leadership role and be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of quality improvement methods.
The candidate will be able to work collaboratively with a team and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
