Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced pharmacist to join our team at St Bartholomew's Hospital as a Highly Specialist Antimicrobial Pharmacist. This is an exciting opportunity for a pharmacist to develop their career, leadership, and clinical skills in antimicrobial stewardship and Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT).

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead, deliver, and develop pharmacy services to the Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) team across St Bartholomew's Hospital in accordance with national standards and local priorities.
  • Ensure that antimicrobials are used safely and effectively in OPAT.
  • Work closely with the Lead Pharmacist for Antimicrobials and be a core member of the Barts Health antimicrobial / microbiology team.
  • Provide specialist advice to patients, medical, and multidisciplinary care teams on antimicrobial treatment by attending ward rounds or OPAT MDT meetings.
  • Be a key active member of the Trust Antimicrobial Review Committee.
Requirements
  • Significant experience of working as a registered clinical pharmacy practitioner at a minimum of Band 7 level or equivalent.
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care.
  • Ability to undertake and facilitate quality improvement, reflective practice, teaching, and CPD.
  • Experience of leading and supervising research, quality improvement, or audit projects.
  • Operational management experience in a complex environment.
  • Experience of providing hospital-based clinical services to antimicrobial and infection control teams at Band 7 level or equivalent.
  • Experience of managing a budget.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to complete documentation accurately with attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise, and organise self, and others.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent clinical and managerial critical appraisal skills.
  • IT literate; able to use Microsoft Office with intermediate IT skills including accurate data entry and use of specialist computer programmes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills suitable for a range of audiences, including chairing of meetings.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate with and influence senior medical staff and senior management.
  • Management of risk in the clinical use of medicines.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to deliver staff training.
Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Sound knowledge of drugs and therapeutics in antimicrobials at Diploma level or equivalent.
  • Thorough understanding of clinical governance, patient safety initiatives, and clinical risk management.
  • Knowledge and awareness of current national standards, guidelines, and service delivery issues relevant to antimicrobials.
  • Knowledge of the medication issues at the interface of primary and secondary care.
  • Knowledge of rationing decisions in the NHS, Payment by Results (PbR), and commissioning.
