About the Role

The Mental Health Liaison (MHL) Nurse Specialist will provide expert support to patients with mental health needs in our inpatient units, from pre-admission to discharge. This role requires collaboration with healthcare professionals, social services, and community teams to plan and act on patient care needs.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and management of patients' mental health conditions, including pre-admission planning and acute mental health episodes.
  • Manage a caseload within their scope of practice, with guidance from the CNO and wider clinical team.
  • Upskill and train colleagues to manage acute mental health patient deteriorations and provide advice on management out of hours.
  • Complete risk assessments and provide advice on mental capacity assessments, building links with external inpatient mental health partners.
  • Manage challenging or disturbed behaviour, provide advice on medication, and participate in discharge planning for inpatients requiring mental health support.
