Key Responsibilities

The role of the Liaison Psychiatry Mental Health Nurse Specialist is to provide high-quality, evidence-based care to adult patients with complex mental health needs. The post-holder will work as an autonomous practitioner, promoting the health and well-being of patients and maintaining a safe, caring, and therapeutic environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Completing comprehensive psychosocial assessments and reviews of mental health needs for patients presenting with a wide range of clinical conditions.
  • Providing a consultation liaison service to St Mary's Hospital ward teams and individual clinicians to advise on psychological care plans and cases involving complex psychosocial needs or challenging behaviors.
  • Teaching acute hospital staff in formal and informal settings on topics related to mental health and liaison psychiatry.
  • Developing and maintaining good working relationships with colleagues within the Liaison Psychiatry Team, CNWL, and the Acute Trust.
Working Environment

The successful candidate will be based at St Mary's Hospital, part of Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust. The post-holder will work closely with the Liaison Psychiatry Team to deliver high-quality services to patients and carers.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to engage with challenging and/or acutely distressed patients. They will also have a strong understanding of mental health disorders, their relationship to physical disorders, and the ability to make autonomous decisions based on complex presenting problems and judgment about available options.

Person Specification

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, applicants must meet the following essential criteria:

  • Registered Nurse (Mental Health) on the NMC professional body
  • ENB 998 or equivalent
  • Evidence of recent relevant professional development post graduating as a registered nurse
  • Post qualification work in psychiatry
  • Experience on an acute adult inpatient unit
  • Previous experience at Band 5
  • Experience in community mental health practice
  • Experience in carrying out psychosocial assessments and autonomous practice
Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is approximately £34,000-£40,000 per annum, depending on experience.
