Job Title: Deputy Ward Manager

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Deputy Ward Manager to join our team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. As a Deputy Ward Manager, you will play a key role in providing clinical leadership and management to our Acute Medical Ward.

Job Summary:

The Deputy Ward Manager will be responsible for providing strong clinical leadership skills, supporting and empowering others in pursuit of a shared vision to ensure the effective management of the ward. You will assist and support the Sister/Charge Nurse in establishing an efficient working environment, making the most effective and efficient use of staff, supplies, and services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide clinical leadership and management to the ward team
  • Assist and support the Sister/Charge Nurse in establishing an efficient working environment
  • Deputise for the Sister/Charge Nurse in their absence
  • Participate in the development of care pathways to promote uniformity of care
  • Apply the Directorate and corporate Clinical Governance strategies to the clinical area
  • Deal with complaints in a calm and courteous manner
  • Support the Sister/Charge Nurse in implementing local initiatives within the area
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Proven experience of managing a ward, including management of rotas, managing competencies, resources, and staff
  • Experience of teaching, assessing, and supervising others in a clinical setting
  • Ability to organise and plan own time and that of junior staff and learners
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
  • Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information
