Job Purpose

The Scottish Prison Service is seeking highly skilled and dedicated individuals to fill the role of Residential Officer in our prisons. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital part in ensuring the safe and secure custody of individuals in our care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Encourage positive behaviors in individuals, promoting rehabilitation and reintegration initiatives and processes.
  2. Contribute to the prevention and constructive management of challenging behaviors, while demonstrating fairness and consistency.
  3. Manage individuals' case work, exercising professional judgment in responding to their needs and challenges.
  4. Complete all administration and communications relevant to the role, in line with local and national requirements and standards.
  5. Contribute to effective operational risk management, ensuring the safe and secure supervision of those in our care.
Person Specification

We are looking for individuals who possess the following skills and qualities:

  • Commitment to continuous professional development, including undertaking formal training and qualifications.
  • Experience of providing support, advice, or guidance to others.
  • Experience of making a positive difference to the lives of others.
  • Experience of managing challenging circumstances or behaviors, using emotional intelligence to prevent or resolve conflict.
  • Ability to foster good relationships and work effectively with a diverse range of people.
  • Ability to identify issues, recognize themes and patterns, and implement solutions.
  • Ability to use a computer and other digital devices to process, analyze, and disseminate information.
Selection Method
