About the Role

The Scottish Prison Service is seeking a Residential Officer to join our team in a challenging and rewarding role. As a Residential Officer, you will be responsible for the safe and secure supervision of individuals in our care, ensuring their needs and entitlements are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Encourage positive behaviours in individuals through a supportive and inclusive approach.
  • Contribute to the prevention and constructive management of challenging behaviours.
  • Manage individuals' case work and exercise professional judgement in responding to their needs.
  • Complete administration and communications relevant to the role, including processing and analysing information.
  • Contribute to effective operational risk management and ensure the safe and secure supervision of individuals in our care.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have a commitment to continuous professional development, including undertaking formal training and qualifications to support their own learning and development, as well as the development of those in our care.

They will also have experience of providing support, advice or guidance to others, making a positive difference to the lives of others, and managing challenging circumstances or behaviours.

The ideal candidate will be able to foster good relationships and work effectively and collaboratively with a diverse range of people, sharing knowledge and skills, and influencing others to achieve desired outcomes.

They will also have the ability to use a computer and other digital devices to process, analyse, evaluate and disseminate information, and produce high quality written reports and maintain effective and accurate records.

Selection Method

The selection process will include a Situational Judgement Test, Cognitive Ability Test, Group Exercise, Written Exercise, and Interview.
