Support Staff for Vulnerable Children

About Our Role
We are seeking an exceptional Support Staff to join our team at Polaris Community. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the emotional and educational needs of vulnerable children. Your primary responsibility will be to mentor and support one pupil or a small group of up to six pupils, working closely with the Classroom Teacher to ensure their progress and well-being.
Responsibilities
- Mentor and support pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Assist the Classroom Teacher during lessons and report on pupils' progress and concerns
- Supervise pupils during non-classroom time, including extra-curricular activities and school trips
- Assist with lesson planning and classroom preparation, setting work where appropriate, and marking
- Bolster positive relationships with your pupils and drive interaction and learning outcomes
Requirements
- A strong basic education, ideally to A-level, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
- Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role
- Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting
- Ability to take additional responsibility in areas such as food hygiene, Forest School, or other extracurricular activities
- Experience of behaviour management techniques
- Commitment to professional development and willingness to learn
- Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check required prior to commencing work
- Familiarity with Lego therapy, Attention Bucket, Makaton, and Intensive Interaction

Location and Salary
This position is based in Ruddington, Nottinghamshire, and offers a competitive salary of £20-£25 per hour.
