About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in managing teams and driving business growth. As a USP Team Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the work of your team to achieve departmental goals and objectives within the Up Stream Processing (USP) development team.

Main Accountabilities

  • You will be accountable for the completion of work within the team to target KPIs, leading Tactical Review Meetings to ensure progress.
  • Own, implement, improve, and maintain department operating mechanisms to drive success.
  • Identify skill and resource gaps, create job descriptions, and conduct thorough interviews to select quality candidates.
  • Ensure team members are trained and have succession plans in line with department goals.
  • Allocate work effectively to team members, balancing billable hours targets and work-life balance.
  • Collaborate with the department head to prioritize and manage workload, ensuring alignment with department plans.
  • Cascade department plans, working with individuals to set annual performance goals and development plans using the SMART framework.
  • Address any gaps in staff performance promptly, providing support and creating personal improvement plans when necessary.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by leading projects and coaching staff in operational excellence tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's degree or PhD in chemistry, biotechnology, life science, or related field.
  • Essential experience in USP, with a proven track record of delivering results.
  • Previous people management experience is required, preferably in a similar capacity.
  • Proven ability to create plans, deliver own plans, and oversee those of the team using Gantt and Action logs.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening skills, with the ability to run productive meetings.
  • Proactive decision-maker, knowing when to act, consult, or escalate.
