Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Anglican Chaplain to join our team at HMP Thameside, a privately run prison estate in Southeast London. The successful candidate will provide spiritual support and guidance to prisoners, staff, and their families, while also facilitating worship and meditation programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a faith advisor, providing pastoral care and spiritual welfare to prisoners, staff, and their families.
  • Facilitate and deliver opportunities for worship, meditation, and religious programs.
  • Contribute to the development of local policy, procedures, and practice.
  • Provide mentoring and personal support for other chaplains and volunteers.
  • Plan and lead worship, meditation, and prayer meetings.
  • Provide pastoral care to prisoners and help resolve crisis situations.
  • Facilitate services provided by contractors and volunteers.
  • Acquire and distribute religious literature, supplies, and materials.
  • Participate in Faith Awareness Training for staff.
  • Take responsibility for your own spiritual health and development.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years' experience in delivering spiritual services in a custodial environment.
  • Proven experience in worship, meditation, and pastoral care.
  • Flexibility and ability to work collaboratively in a multi-faith chaplaincy.
  • Ability to meet the faith/belief eligibility requirements for the Anglican tradition.
  • Reader (Canon E4 of The Canons of the Church of England or equivalent) or other appropriately qualified or licensed minister.
  • Formal endorsement from the HMPPS Anglican Faith Adviser.
  • Diocesan DBS clearance and up to date safeguarding training.
