About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Anglican Chaplain to join our vibrant chaplaincy team at HMP Thameside, a privately run prison estate in Southeast London.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide emotional and spiritual support to prisoners, staff, and their families, promoting a sense of well-being and reducing stress.
  • Develop and deliver worship, meditation, and study programs, as well as facilitating services provided by contractors and volunteers.
  • Contribute to the development of local policy, procedures, and practice, ensuring a cohesive and effective chaplaincy service.
  • Offer mentoring and personal support to other chaplains and volunteers, including crisis situations.
  • Plan and lead worship, meditation, and prayer meetings, as well as faith/belief specific gatherings.
  • Provide pastoral care to prisoners, helping to resolve crisis situations and promoting positive interventions.
  • Collaborate with other chaplains and volunteers to achieve targets and improve services.
  • Participate in Faith Awareness Training for staff, promoting a deeper understanding of the chaplaincy role.
  • Take responsibility for personal spiritual health and development, ensuring time for private prayer, study, and retreat.
  • Attend relevant boards and meetings, contributing to discussions and decision-making.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years' experience in delivering Anglican services and activities within a custodial environment.
  • Proven experience in pastoral care, worship, and group work.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Anglican theology and religious practice.
  • Formal endorsement from the HMPPS Anglican Faith Adviser.
  • Diocesan DBS clearance and up-to-date safeguarding training.
  • Relevant qualifications in theology or religious study.
