Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Secretary to join our team at James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support to our medical team, ensuring the smooth running of our clinical services.

Main Responsibilities

The Medical Secretary will be responsible for managing clinical pathways, booking and scheduling patient appointments, typing clinics, dealing with telephone queries, managing and administrating results, and supporting the delivery of RTT targets for the department.

Person Specification

  • Typing qualifications to RSA II or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology/AMSPAR qualification
  • Good general standard of literacy and numeracy
  • Previous digital/audio typing experience
  • Secretarial experience in a clinical environment
  • Working knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Outlook, Excel
  • Working knowledge and experience of using NHS systems

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and maintain concentration in a pressurised working environment
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative, prioritise work and consistently meet deadlines
  • Customer care skills including diplomacy and sensitivity
  • Ability to input data accurately and efficiently
  • Ability to solve problems using analytical and judgemental skills
