Job Description

Role Summary: We are seeking an experienced Principal Control and Instrumentation Engineer to join our team at BAE Systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the design, development, integration, and management of control systems for in-service and future submarines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of control systems for submarines, ensuring they meet the required safety and performance standards.
  • Work with system owners, suppliers, and customers to support the manufacture and delivery of C&I equipment.
  • Develop and manage C&I systems, including test systems, and provide evidence of fitness for purpose.
  • Compile technical system documentation and schematics, including system design, functional design, validation, and verification.
  • Integrate systems containing electronic, mechanical, and software sub-systems, understanding the potential impact on the whole system.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Understanding of C&I systems design and demonstrable career experience with these systems.
  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant STEM subject (Engineering, Physics, Maths, Science).
  • Knowledge of the system engineering lifecycle and ability to apply good systems engineering practices.
  • Experience leading and coaching others.
  • Chartered engineer or working towards this level.

Desirable:

  • Awareness of Defence Standards and Industry standards, such as IEC 61508/61511 and ARP 4754.
