About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Consultant Microbiologist to join our team at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical advisory services, developing clinical guidelines, and leading a comprehensive microbiology service.

Main Duties
  • Liaise with clinicians, hospital staff, and general practitioners to diagnose, manage, and prevent infection
  • Collaborate with existing Consultant Microbiologists to maintain professional standards in the laboratory
  • Authorise and interpret results issued by the laboratory
  • Develop and implement policies for the use of antimicrobials
  • Participate in audit activities and contribute to the Trust's Undergraduate Medical Training Programme
Requirements
  • GMC registration
  • FRCPath or equivalent qualification
  • Higher Level training in Clinical Microbiology, including infection prevention
  • Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team and maintain good relations with contacts
  • Experience of audit and the implementation of change following audit
  • Understanding of and ability to demonstrate strategic influence, collaboration, and drive for improvement
  • Knowledge of principles of antimicrobial stewardship
