Senior Clinical Microbiologist

We are seeking a Senior Clinical Microbiologist to join our team at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. As a key member of our microbiology department, you will play a crucial role in providing clinical advisory services and ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
About the Role
As a Senior Clinical Microbiologist, you will be responsible for the diagnosis, management, and prevention of infection in collaboration with clinicians, hospital staff, and general practitioners. You will work closely with our existing Consultant Microbiologist to develop and implement policies for the use of antimicrobials, support antimicrobial stewardship, and participate in audit activities.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide clinical advisory services to patients with infections, including ward liaison, ITU ward rounds, and development of clinical guidelines.
* Authorize and interpret results issued by the laboratory, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality assurance, and accreditation.
* Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development of infection prevention and control policies.
* Collaborate with the Infection Control & Prevention Doctor to provide infection prevention and control advice to DGFT and the wider community.
* Work closely with the UK-HSA West Midlands and Environmental Health Officers to manage and prevent communicable diseases within the community.
Person Specification
* GMC registration
* FRCPath or equivalent qualification
* Higher Level training in Clinical Microbiology, including infection prevention, and CCT in Microbiology or a dual CCT in Microbiology & Infectious Diseases
* Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team and maintain good relations with contacts
* Evidence of audit and implementation of change following audit
* Understanding of and ability to demonstrate strategic influence, collaborative working, and driving for improvement
* Knowledge of principles of antimicrobial stewardship
